Sustainable Production and Consumption Patterns

Sustainable Production and Consumption Patterns

"The use of services and related products that respond to basic needs and improve quality of life while minimising the use of natural resources and toxic materials, as well as the emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product so as not to jeopardise the needs of future generations," according to Sustainable Consumption and Production.  SCP (Sustainable Consumption and Production) is about getting more done with less. It’s also about decoupling economic growth from environmental damage, improving resource efficiency, and encouraging people to live more sustainably. We are consuming more resources than ever before, far exceeding the planet’s generation potential. Meanwhile, waste and pollution are increasing, and the wealth divide is rising. All aspects of health, education, equity, and empowerment are harmed. SCP, meanwhile, has the potential to make a significant contribution to poverty reduction and the transition to low-carbon and green economies. To do this, SCP necessitates collaboration across a wide range of stakeholders as well as across sectors in all countries.
